Cabaret, Company CDs, et al. Elected to Grammy Hall of Fame

The Recording Academy has announced the inductees into the 2008 Grammy Hall of Fame.

This year’s list includes the original Broadway cast albums of Company and Oliver!, the 1972 film soundtrack to Cabaret, and such classic singles as Ethel Merman’s “You’re the Top,” Billy Murray’s “Give My Regards to Broadway,” Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy’s “Indian Love Call,” Nora Bayes’ “Over There,” Fred Astaire’s “Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails,” and Gertrude Lawrence’s “Someone to Watch Over Me.”

Other selections include Barbra Streisand’s recording of “The Way We Were,” Shirley Bassey’s recording of “Goldfinger,” and three recordings of Burt Bacharach and Hal David tunes: Jackie DeShannon’s “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” Dusty Springfield’s “The Look of Love,” and Dionne Warwick’s “Alfie.”
