Bobby Cannavale, Sutton Foster, Lily Rabe, Mark Rylance, et al. Win Patrick Lee Theater Blogger Awards

The winners of Independent Theater Bloggers Association’s third annual Patrick Lee Theater Blogger Awards have been announced.

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson has been named Outstanding New Broadway Musical and Jerusalem has been named Outstanding New Broadway Play. Other winners include Anything Goes and The Normal Heart, which have won, respectively, in Outstanding Broadway Musical and Outstanding Broadway Play Revival categories.

In Off-Broadway categories, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Diety has been named Outstanding Play and The Kid has been named Outstanding Musical, while Angels in America, Part 1: Millennium Approaches has received the award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Revival (Play or Musical).

Citations for excellence by individual performers have gone to Nina Arianda (Born Yesterday), Laura Benanti (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), Reed Birney (A Small Fire), Christian Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher), Norbert Leo Butz (Catch Me If You Can), Bobby Cannavale (The Motherfucker with the Hat), Colman Domingo (The Scottsboro Boys), Sutton Foster (Anything Goes), Josh Gad (The Book of Mormon), Hamish Linklater (The School for Lies), Joe Mantello (The Normal Heart), Arian Moayed (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo), Lily Rabe (The Merchant of Venice), Mark Rylance (Jerusalem), and Benjamin Walker (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson).

Other award winners include Michael Shannon, who has a citation for individual performance as well as the Outstanding Solo Show Performance award; the cast of The Scottsboro Boys, which has received the Outstanding Ensemble Performance award; and Sleep No More, which has been named Unique Off-Broadway Experience.

In addition, citations for Outstanding Off-Off Broadway show have gone to Feeder: A Love Story, Invasion!, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Belarus Free Theater’s Discover Love, Black Watch, and ReWrite and a citation has also been given to La MaMa as Outstanding Off-Off Broadway Theatre.

The group is made of up writers from around the country and was named after founding member Patrick Lee, who was also a regular contributor to TheaterMania.
