The new production will open on Broadway this March.
The hotly anticipated new production of Les Misérables has announced that Andy Mientus and Charlotte Maltby will join the cast as the musical’s young lovers, Marius and Cosette. Both performers will be making their Broadway debuts.
Mientus is best known for his featured role in season two of the Broadway-themed television series Smash, and this past season he has had recurring roles on the FX series Anger Management and the ABC drama Chasing Life. His theater credits include the national tour of Spring Awakening and MCC Theater’s 2012 production of Carrie the Musical.
Maltby, daughter of famed Broadway lyricist Richard Maltby Jr. (Baby, Big, Closer Than Ever), comes to Broadway following a run as Fantine in St. Louis Muny's recent production of Les Mis. Currently a musical theater student at the University of Michigan, she will also appear in the upcoming film adaptation of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years.
As previously announced, Les Mis is set to begin performances on Saturday, March 1, in advance of a Sunday, March 23 opening. Laurence Connor and James Powell will direct the newly imagined revival.
Mientus and Maltby join a cast featuring Ramin Karimloo (The Phantom of the Opera) as Jean Valjean, Will Swenson (Little Miss Sunshine) as Javert, Caissie Levy (Murder Ballad) as Fantine, and Tony winner Nikki M. James (The Book of Mormon) as Eponine.
