On Thursday, June 30, the company of
Silence! The Musical celebrated their arrival Off-Broadway at
Theatre 80 St. Mark’s where the show is set to play through August 13. Director and choreographer Christopher Gattelli also staged the piece at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2005 and he directed a 2010 production in London.
Guests included Rich Affannato, Susan Blackwell, Danny Burstein, Barrett Foa, Troy Britton Johnson, David LaChapelle, Daniel Reichard, and Stephen Schwartz.
The show, with a book by Hunter Bell and music and lyrics by Jon and Al Kaplan, is an unauthorized parody of the thriller Silence of the Lambs, which focuses on rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling as she uses her relationship with Dr. Hannibal Lecter to hunt serial killer Buffalo Bill.
The company features Brent Barrett (Lecter), Stephen Bienskie (Buffalo Bill), Jenn Harris (Starling), Deidre Goodwin (Ardelia Mapp), Jeff Hiller (Pembry/Miggs/Lamb), Harry Bouvy (Dr. Chilton), Howard Kaye (Jack Crawford), Lucia Spina (Catherine Martin), and Callan Bergmann (Ensemble). The creative team includes Scott Pask (scenic design) and Jeff Croiter (lighting design), Mark Hartman (musical director), and Brian J. Nash (arrangements & orchestrations).
