Hair‘s Diane Paulus to Direct Haydn’s Il mondo della luna at Hayden Planetarium

Diane Paulus, the director of the Tony Award-winning revival of Hair, will direct Joseph Haydn’s Il mondo della luna (The World on the Moon) at the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space, January 19-28, 2010.

The production will be presented by Gotham Chamber Opera, in partnership with the American Museum of Natural History and in association with American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.). The staging will utilize 180-degree dome and laser lighting projections courtesy of NASA and designed by Philip Bussmann, costumes by Anka Lupes, and a 27-piece orchestra led by Neal Goren.

The cast will include Hanan Alattar, Albina Shagimuratova, Rachel Calloway, Nicholas Coppolo, Matthew Tuell, Timothy Kuhn, and Marco Nisticò.

Paulus is the new artistic director of A.R.T., and her previous directorial credits include The Donkey Show, a disco adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream; the Obie-award winning Eli’s Comin’ featuring the music and lyrics of Laura Nyro; and Don Giovanni, The Turn of the Screw, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Così fan tutte, all for the Chicago Opera Theater.
