Lynn Ahrens, Jon Robin Baitz, Julia Brownell, Evan Cabnet, David Cromer, Christopher Durang, Željko Ivanek, Greta Lee, Joe Mantello, Greg Pierce, Paul Rudnick, Bartlett Sher, Sam Waterston, John Weidman, Mary Louise Wilson, and Zoe Winters were among the attendees for the “Seat Yourself” celebration for the donors and recipients of the naming of the 112 seats in the new Claire Tow Theatre at Lincoln Center on Wednesday, May 16.
The theater, which will house productions by LCT3, is named for the wife of Lincoln Center Theater board member Leonard Tow. It is part of a 23,000 square-foot, two-story addition on the roof of the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, which has been designed by Hugh Hardy of H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture. The space also includes rehearsal areas, dressing rooms, office space, and an outdoor terrace.
The theater will be inaugurated by LCT3’s production of Pierce’s two-character drama, Slowgirl (June 4-July 15), starring Ivanek and Sarah Steele, and directed by Anne Kauffman.
The LCT3 season at the Claire Tow will also include three performances of Young Jean Lee’s Obie Award-winning performance piece, We’re Gonna Die (September 13-15), directed by Paul Lazar, and the New York premiere of Ayad Akhtar’s drama, Disgraced (October 8-November 18), directed by Kimberly Senior.
