J. Bernard Calloway Returns to Broadway’s Memphis
Calloway recently finished up a critically acclaimed run in Two River Theater Company’s staging of Jitney. The actor originated the role of Delray in Memphis, and will once again perform that role, taking over from Christopher Jackson, who will play his final performance on February 26.
Memphis takes place in the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 50’s, where a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun (played by Adam Pascal) fell in love with everything he shouldn’t: rock and roll and an electrifying black singer (Montego Glover).
The musical won four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score (David Bryan and Joe DiPietro), Best Book (Joe DiPietro), and Best Orchestrations (David Bryan and Daryl Waters).
