David Strathairn to Join Sally Field, Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln Movie

David Strathairn has joined the cast of the movie Lincoln, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Steven Spielberg will direct the film, which will have a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner.

The movie will focus on Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet as they struggle with the abolishment of slavery and seek to end the Civil War. Strathairn will play William Seward, who served as Lincoln’s Secretary of State. As previously announced, the film will star Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role and Sally Field as his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln.

Stathairn’s New York stage credits include Three Sisters, Dance of Death, Salome, Eyes for Consuela, The Winter’s Tale, and Conversations in Tusculum. The actor won an Emmy for his work in HBO’s Temple Grandin, and he received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Edward R. Morrow in Good Night, and Good Luck.
