The GLAAD Media Awards — which recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives — held its Los Angeles ceremony on April 10 at the Westin Bonaventure.
Among the award winners was Kristin Chenoweth, who received the Vanguard Award, given to media professionals who have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community. The honor was presented to her by Sean Hayes, who was her Broadway co-star in Promises, Promises.
There was a tie for Outstanding Comedy Series with winners including Fox’s Glee and ABC’s Modern Family, with additional awards going to I Love You Phillip Morris, Project Runway, MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, and NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt.
Among the additional celebrities who attended the ceremony and/or presented awards were stage veterans Melissa Etheridge, Megan Hilty, Jai Rodriguez, and Allison Janney, as well as Grey’s Anatomy star Sarah Drew, award-winning film actress Kirsten Dunst, Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin, and rock star Meat Loaf.
