Richard Bean, Katie Mitchell, Simon Stephens, et al. Set for Royal Court Theatre’s Spring 2011 Season

The Royal Court Theatre has announced the pieces it will produce during spring 2011.

The season will open with Richard Bean’s The Heretic, to run February 4 – March 19 in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs. Directed by Jeremy Herrin, the black comedy focuses on an academic scientist who finds herself at the center of a battle over the politics of and policies related to global-warming. The creative team will include Peter McKintosh (production design), Paul Pyant (lighting design) and Emma Laxton (sound design).

Also at this venue will be Simon Stephens’ Wastwater, to run March 31 – May 7. Katie Mitchell will direct this piece that is a snapshot of three different couples as they make a choice critical to their future. The creative team will include production designer Lizzie Clachan, lighting designer Lucy Carter, and sound designer Gareth Fry.

During the spring, the company’s International Department will offer two pieces in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs: Pedro Miguel Rozo’s look at how a rumor affects the life of a family in a Colombian village, Our Private Life (February 11 – March 12), to be directed by Lyndsey Turner; and Aleksey Scherbak’s look at the politically charged tensions in modern day Latvia, Remembrance Day (March 18 – April 16), to be directed by Michael Longhurst.
