David Henry Hwang Named 2012 William Inge Theatre Festival Honoree

Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang will accept the 2012 William Inge Distinguished Achievement in the American Theatre Award at the Inge Festival April 18-21, 2012, at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas.Hwang won the Tony Award for M. Butterfly and Obie Awards for FOB and Yellow Face. His other plays include Golden Child, Family Devotions, The Sound of a Voice, Bondage and Face Value, as well as Chinglish, which recently premiered at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and will, as previously reported, transfer to Broadway later this season.

In addition, he has written books for the musicals Aida and Tarzan, and crafted a new book for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Flower Drum Song. Hwang has also written four works with composer Philip Glass, including Icarus at the Edge of Time and The Voyage, and the libretto for the opera The Fly.
