The Hypocrites Presents The 4th Graders Present an Unnamed Love-Suicide
The show begins at the Den Theatre's Heath Main Stage this evening.
The show focuses on a group of fourth graders, after one of their own shoots himself. As his only suicide note, Johnny leaves a play behind, which his peers then have to act out as a memorial. Friends and bullies alike assume the roles of Johnny and his classmates, and create a heartbreaking and unique story, at the heart of which is a glimpse into the motivations behind Johnny's actions.
Mechelle Moe and Joel Ewing direct the play by Sean Graney. The production features Brian Baren as Mike Rice, Justin Burns as Johnny, Hunter Dunn as Rachel, Heather Lauritzen as Lucy Law, Jauhara Sanders as Brenda, Cleo Shine as the Singer, and Olivia Shine as Sally.
"The Yard is excited to be in artistic alliance with The Hypocrites and honored to be a part of Sean's wonderful play," said Senn Ewing. "The social and emotional codes of conduct the 4th graders experience during the making of their play are not unlike what our students face on a daily basis attempting to navigate the daunting public spaces of school classrooms, cafeterias and hallways. To have Sean's play be brought to life by the very talented actors of The Yard is extremely relevant to their own lives and incredibly exciting for our audiences," adds Ewing.
The creative team includes John Wilson (scenic design), Joel Ewing and Mechelle Moe (costume design), Heather Gilbert (lighting design), Kevin O'Donnell (sound design), Danielle Case (properties design) and Pat Fries (production manager).
Performances will run through November 8.
