New York City
The musical juggernaut will head for Chicago.
The first non-New York production of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway musical Hamilton will kick off September 27, 2016, at Chicago's PrivateBank Theatre (a new name for the Bank of America Theatre).
The length of the Chicago run is still to be determined, though according to published reports, it will sit down for at least a year, before eventually touring the country. A second company is expected to be launched for a West Coast birth in California. Further details, including casting, will be confirmed in the coming months.
Directed by Thomas Kail and inspired by Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton explores the life of the American founding father and first Secretary of the Treasury, as well as his experiences as an orphan of the British West Indies who immigrated to the 13 Colonies and helped shape the United States of America.
The show, which had its world premiere at the Public Theater, features a book and score by Tony winner Miranda, with music direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.
