Happy Holiday! Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn Will Come to Broadway
Holiday Inn, a new stage musical inspired by the 1942 Fred Astaire-Bing Crosby film, will see its Broadway premiere in 2016 as part of Roundabout Theatre Company's season. Performances begin September 1 at Studio 54, with opening night set for October 13.
Holiday Inn features a book by Chad Hodge and Gordon Greenberg, who also directs, as well as a collection of classic Irving Berlin songs including "Easter Parade," "White Christmas," "Heatwave," and more. The show follows Jim, a noted dancer who leaves the bright lights of show business to settle down on his Connecticut farmhouse. There he meets Linda, a schoolteacher with talent to spare, and they turn the farm into an inn with dazzling performances to celebrate each holiday. But when Jim's best friend Ted tries to lure Linda into the spotlight, will Jim be able to salvage his latest chance at love?
The show premiered at Connecticut's Goodspeed Opera House in 2014 and played The Muny in St. Louis in 2015. Broadway vets Patti Murin, Hayley Podschun, Tally Sessions, and Noah Racey led the Goodspeed cast, while Murin, Racey, Colin Donnell, and Holly Ann Butler starred in the Muny production.
Denis Jones serves as choreographer for the Broadway mounting. Full casting and additional information about the production will be revealed in the coming months.
