Bittersweet, Justin Bond, Ute Lemper, The Wild Duck, et al. Part of Bard SummerScape Season

The lineup of offerings that will comprise Bard SummerScape 2011 has been announced.

The schedule will include Noel Coward’s operetta Bitter Sweet (August 4-14), which will be directed by Michael Gieleta and conducted by James Bagwell. The piece centers on a young woman’s elopement with her music teacher, and includes such well-known songs as “I’ll See You Again” and “If Love Were All.”

The Bard SummerScape season will also include Henrik Ibsen’s examination of a family’s coming to terms with the lies that have been at its center, The Wild Duck (July 13-24), to be directed by Caitriona McLaughlin.

The season will also include the return of the SpiegelTent, which will feature performances by Ute Lemper, Weimar NYC with Justin Bond, the Wau Wau Sisters, and Bindlestiff Family Cirkus.

Other offerings in Bard SummerScape will include an engagement by the Finnish dance company Tero Saarinen Company (July 7-10), a two-week Bard Music Festival which will center on Finnish composer Sibelius’ work and legacy (August 12-21), a production of Richard Strauss’ 1940 opera Die Liebe der Danae (July 29 -August 7), and the film festival, Before and After Bergman: The Best of Nordic Film (July 14 – August 18).
