The award was presented on September 24 at the opening night dinner for STC's first 2012-2013 production, The Government Inspector. The honor is named after the late Emery Battis, an STC affiliated artist, and comes with a $5,000 cash prize.

Elrod is currently performing on Broadway in Peter and the Starcatcher, with additional credits including Measure for Measure and Based on a Totally True Story. Epp is the former co-Artistic Director of Theatre de la Jeune Lune, and has numerous credits both in New York and regionally.
