Samuel D. Hunter Named 2013 Resident Playwright at Arena Stage

By Bethany Rickwald • Aug 13, 2012 • Washington, DC
Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater has announced that Obie Award-winning playwright Samuel D. Hunter will join its American Voices New Play Institute as a resident playwright in 2013.

Launched in 2010 as part of the American Voices New Play Institute, the residency program helps playwrights write and develop new work by providing an annual stipend, health benefits, local housing, and a development budget. Hunter will be joining current resident playwrights such as Amy Freed and Katori Hall.

Samuel D. Hunter has had work produced at theaters across the U.S., as well as internationally. He is known for his recent play A Bright New Boise.

In related news, this year, Arena Stage is also launching Playwrights' Arena, a new program for six local playwrights to engage with the artistic life of Arena Stage.
