Marvin Hamlisch, Barry Manilow, Idina Menzel Set for Wolf Trap’s 2012 Summer Season

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts has announced its summer schedule at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts.

Among the theater-related highlights will be a National Symphony Orchestra concert featuring Tony Award winner Idina Menzel, conducted by Steven Reineke on August 3. Multi-award winning conductor Marvin Hamlisch joins a special guest for a night of Broadway hits with the National Symphony Orchestra on July 13. Another NSO presentation will be a screening of the iconic musical West Side Story, featuring the full score conducted by Emil de Cou on August 4.

The musical Rock of Ages will be presented on September 9, and Cirque Dreams – Pop Goes the Rock will play July 21 and 22.

The Wolf Trap Opera Company (WTOC) will present two full-length opera productions — Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress — as well as From Bel Canto to Can Belto, a recital with pianist Steven Blier, and Aria Jukebox, a Filene Young Artist Showcase of opera highlights. The Company will also join the NSO and The Washington Chorus for a performance of Beethoven’s 9th.

Among the many other artists who will perform at Wolf Trap are Barenaked Ladies, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Donald Fagen, Alan Jackson, Norah Jones, Diana Krall, k.d. lang, Johnny Mathis, Barry Manilow, Martina McBride, Michael McDonald, Bonnie Raitt, George Thorogood, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, and Steve Winwood
