Craig Wallace to Replace David Emerson Toney in Ford Theatre’s Necessary Sacrifices

Craig Wallace will now play the role of Frederick Douglass in the world premiere of Richard Hellesen’s Necessary Sacrifices, at Ford’s Theatre. He replaces the previously reported star David Emerson Toney, who withdrew from the production because of a private health matter. The cast change has necessitated the cancellation of four preview performances, with the show to now begin on January 26, with its run extended through February 18.

In the play, Hellesen explores the two documented encounters between Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln during the summers of 1863 and 1864, as Douglass challenges the president to envision a post-emancipation world.

The cast also features David Selby as Abraham Lincoln and Michael Kramer as George Stearns.
