An Intimate Evening with Martin Charnin as well as a new musical based on the work of Carl Sagan, and a holiday time panto are among the offerings for the coming year at Centerstage in Federal Way, Washington.

The season opener is Carl Sagan’s Contact (September 24 – October 18). This musical, from composer Peter Sipos, lyricist Amy Englehardt, and book writer Alan Bryce who adapted Sagan’s work, centers on what happens after a scientist has encountered the first confirmed communication from extraterrestrial beings.

The Christmas panto, Jack and the Beanstalk (November 28 – December 20), follows. In the new year, the theater will present the contemporary romantic musical I Love You Because (February 5-21), the stage adaptation of Enchanted April (March 26 – April 11) and a revival of the Fats Waller revue Ain’t Misbehavin’ (May 21 – June 6).

In addition to these productions, the theater will offer musical performances throughout the year. At the center of this programming will be An Evening with Martin Charnin (March 13-14), in which the director of Annie will reflect on his career that extends back to performing as a Jet in the original production of West Side Story. Other programming at Centerstage includes Sondheim, Newman & Will (April 17-25), a cabaret of songs from the three composers and Jim Ragland’s solo piece about Woody Guthrie, which will be performed May 8-9.
