Producer Charles McCue Dies at 51

Charles McCue, the former producing artistic director of the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, has died, of apparently natural causes while living on the streets of San Francisco, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle. He was 51.

McCue began his association with the festival as an actor during its first season, performing in The Tempest in 1983. The association would continue for the next 20 years, as the company expanded to parks in cities such as Oakland, Pleasanton, Cupertino, and San Mateo. McCue became the company’s producer in 1995 and its producing artistic director in 1999. He remained in the position until 2003.

He is survived by his sister, Betty Angermeier, and brother-in-law, Greg Angermeier.
