SHN has announced the productions in its 2009-2010 Citibank Best of Broadway season, which will kick off with the national tour of Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps, to be presented in Winter 2009. The play is a comedic take on Hitchcock’s 1935 classic thriller of the same name, adapted by Patrick Barlow, based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and on the book by John Buchan. Maria Aitken, who helmed the show on Broadway and in the West End, will direct.

Chaim Topol stars in the national tour of Fiddler on the Roof, reprising the role of Tevye, which he performed in the film version of this Joseph Stein-Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick tuner, based on Sholem Aleichem’s stories. Sammy Dallas Bayes reproduces the original Jerome Robbins direction and choreography, with the musical to be presented Winter 2010. The 2008 Tony Award-winning best musical, In the Heights, will play Spring 2010. The show features a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, and choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler.

Young Frankenstein, based on the Mel Brooks film and directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, will play Summer 2010. Fall 2010 will see the tour of the current Broadway revival of West Side Story, directed by the show’s librettist, Arthur Laurents. The season will also include one additional production, to be announced.
