The Signature Theatre production of Suzan-Lori Parks F**king A recently began performances and has released its first photos from the production. The play, inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, opens September 11 and runs through October 1.
Jo Bonney directs the cast of J. Cameron Barnett (The Emperor Jones), Tony nominee Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton), Ben Horner (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), Joaquina Kalukango (The Color Purple), Tony nominee Marc Kudisch (The Wayside Motor Inn), Emmy and Golden Globe winner Christine Lahti (Chicago Hope), Ruibo Qian (Bull in a China Shop), Drama Desk nominee Elizabeth Stanley (On the Town), and Raphael Nash Thompson (Pericles).
In F**king A, "Hester Smith, the revered and reviled local abortionist, hatches a plan to buy her jailed son's freedom — and nothing will deter Hester from her quest. In this wild-eyed blend of story and song, Hester's branded letter A becomes a provocative emblem of vengeance, violence, and sacrifice."
F**cking A is produced alongside Parks's In the Blood, also inspired by Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, as The Red Letter Plays.
