Signups will begin at 10am in the theater's lobby on a first-come-first-served basis. Children and their guardians should line up in front of the theater and have a picture and résumé stapled together for submission. Paper Mill is seeking to fill the roles of Emile de Becque's two children: Jerome, a mixed-race boy, age 7-9, and Ngana, a mixed-race girl, age 9-11. Auditioning children will be asked to sing "Dites-Moi" from the show, with music provided for them. Callbacks will be held the same day.
"Students who have appeared on the Paper Mill Playhouse stage have gone on to have major careers onstage, in movies and on television," said Mark S. Hoebee, Paper Mill Playhouse's producing artistic director. "This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to be a part of a professional production and perform on the legendary Paper Mill stage." Among the theater's notable alumni are Tony Award winner Laura Benanti (Gypsy), Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables), and recent Tony Award nominee Rob McClure (Chaplin).
The classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, set on a South Pacific island during World War II, is scheduled to run at Paper Mill Playhouse from April 9-May 4. Rehearsals for the production will begin March 17 in New York City.
