Seattle Kids Spotlight: July '07
Parents can bring their kids to the park to see The Reluctant Dragon, a new adaptation developed by Theater Schmeater (July 7-August 12, all performances at Volunteer Park) about the dragon who turns out to be scared rather than scary. Out of town productions for families include Beauty and the Beast at Tacoma Musical Playhouse (July 6-August 5) and Dames at Sea at Paradise Theater in Gig Harbor (June 22 - July 8).
SF Kids Spotlight: July '07
Broadway by the Bay brings Beauty and the Beast back to San Francisco (July 12 - 29). In the musical fairy tale, Belle visits an enchanted castle where a living candlestick, a clock, a teapot, a crockery and other animated objects help her see the inner beauty in a Beast, who's trapped under a cruel spell only she can break.

Philadelphia Kids Spotlight: July '07

Philadelphia's Academy of Music is the second stop for the national tour of the eagerly-awaited Disney's High School Musical (July 11-22). Adapted by David Simpatico from the hugely popular Disney Channel film, the show is the story of a high school basketball player who defies his cliquish friends to star in the school musical with an intellectually-gifted female lead. Also, Theatre Horizon presents the family-friendly Broadway musical Once on This Island (July 1-15), featuring a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. This beloved tale of star-crossed lovers who try to overcome prejudice and racism is helmed by Horizon artistic director Matthew Decker.
Florida Kids Spotlight: July '07
In Central Florida, the Orlando Repertory Theatre has coordinated the first Target Family Theatre Festival (July 12-22). For the kids in the south of the Sunshine State, the Kravis Center has My Little Pony LIVE! The World's Biggest Tea Party (July 13-15) and the Broward Center hosts France's Coatimundi Puppet Theater for four very special performances of Hats Off to the Sea (July 20-21), an interactive puppet adventure that tells the story of Seraphin, who takes a trip across the sea, fights a dragon, discovers a mermaid's secret, and finally achieves his heart's desire.
