Sam Shepard, who as previously reported is the recipient of the inaugural Ellen Stewart Award, has selected young playwright Matthew Paul Olmos to create and present a new work to be produced at La MaMa E.T.C.

Shepard’s selection of Olmos is part of the requirements of the award, named for the late founder and artistic director of the theater, as a way of continuing La MaMa’s inter-generational exchange between artists.

Olmos is the author of the plays i put the fear of mexico in’em, and Monkey. He is co-founder and former artistic director of woken’glacier theatre company, a member of No Passport and is a core staff member at the Lark Play Development Center.
