Boardwalk Empire, The Big C, and Weeds Get Season Renewals

HBO has renewed its brand-new drama Boardwalk Empire for a second season, according to published reports. The series, which is set in 1920s Atlantic City, stars Steve Buscemi and is co-produced by Martin Scorsese. It debuted on Sunday, September 19 to strong ratings and mostly positive reviews.

In related news, Showtime has ordered a seventh season of its hit series Weeds and a second season of its recently-launched series The Big C, both of which will air in 2011.

Weeds stars Emmy Award winner Mary-Louise Parker as a suburban widow who becomes a marijuana dealer to support her family. The series also stars stage veterans Justin Kirk and Hunter Parrish.

Emmy Award winner and Tony Award winner Laura Linney headlines The Big C as a woman who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The series also features stage and screen star Oliver Platt as her estranged husband.
