The New Island Festival, being held on New York City’s Governors Island this weekend and next, has canceled events for Friday, September 11 due to inclement weather. This outdoor festival of the arts, which features Dutch theater, music, and dance events, will resume on Saturday September 12.

There are no refunds, though Passports purchased for today will be honored on any other day of the Festival. Customers who purchased Passports with show tickets for one of today’s performances may return to Governors Island on another day of the Festival and receive a ticket for another performance of the same show, subject to ticket availability.

As previously reported, the Festival will feature director Ivo van Hove’s Toneelgroep Amsterdam which will present Jean Cocteau’s La Voix Humaine (The Human Voice), in a co-presentation with New York Theatre Workshop. The piece centers on a woman’s last desperate phone call to her ex-lover, and stars Halina Reijn.

Additional highlights will include composer and musician Sytze Pruiksma’s Lân (Land), a look at the versatile shapes and sounds of the land and its inhabitants; Jetse Batelaan’s Broeders (Brothers), in which audience and actors share an unlikely encounter; Compagnie Dakar’s Braakland (Wasteland), about nine people wandering through a forgotten place; De Veenfabriek’s music-theatre work, Orfeo, directed by Paul Koek; TUIG’s Salto Vitale, an enormous site specific outdoor spectacle; a series of short performances grouped as Boulevard of Broken Dreams; and Silent Disco, a dance party where all the participants wear headphones. On Sunday, Seth Meyers and Jason Sudeikis from Saturday Night Live, Pete Grosz from The Colbert Report, and Jordan Peele from MadTV will appear as part of BOOM CHICAGO: ALL STARS, a special one-night only show from the critically acclaimed Dutch-based comedy troop Boom Chicago.

Other artists include De Jongens, SleM, C. Ryder Cooley, Maria Jose Arjona, Implied Violence, H*E*R*D Group, Theo Botschuijver, Jacob Rens, Anouk van Dijk, Conny Janssen Danst, Dansgroep Amsterdam, ZAP, De Levende Jukebox (The Living Jukebox), PIPS:lab, Iris Hond, De Stijle, Want, SPACE, Boom Chicago, Ellen Depoorter, Orkater, Ellen ten Damme, Divera, ANYtime, and Pieter Post.
