Alec Baldwin, Matt Cavenaugh, and Daniel Davis will perform in Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du soldat (The Soldier’s Tale), to be presented by the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall on Sunday, May 2, at 3pm. Valery Gergiev will conduct.

This 1918 war-influenced musical Faustian tale is about a fiddle-playing soldier (Cavanaugh) who strikes an ill-advised bargain with the devil (Davis). The soldier comes to realize his error, and for a time seems to manage to outwit his foe and begin a new life with a princess, but the devil triumphs in the end. Baldwin will narrate. The cast will also feature Alexander Timchenko, Dmitry Voropaev,
Ilya Bannik, and Andrei Serov.

Baldwin has appeared on Broadway in A Streetcar Named Desire, Loot, and Twentieth Century. He received an Academy Award nomination for The Cooler and has won two Emmy Awards for his work on NBC’s 30 Rock. Cavenaugh was most recently seen on Broadway in West Side Story. Among his many other credits are Grey Gardens and Urban Cowboy. Davis’ Broadway credits include La Cage Aux Folles, The Frogs, and Wrong Mountain, for which he received a Tony Award nomination, and he is best known for his role as Niles on the hit TV sitcom The Nanny.
