Wendie Malick will star in the Hallmark Movie Channel’s Wild Horse Annie, according to a report in Variety. The movie is scheduled for a release in the summer of 2012.

Jerry Wingfield is writing the script, which is based on a portion of author Deanne Stillman’s Mustang: The Saga of the Wild Horse in the American West. The movie will focus on the life of animal-rights activist Velma Johnston, who helped save the lives of hundreds of equines.

Malick’s stage credits include What Is the Cause of Thunder? and Blithe Spirit at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and Questa at the Court Theatre in Los Angeles. In addition, she received two Emmy nominations for her work on Just Shoot Me and currently stars as Victoria Chase on TVLand’s Hot in Cleveland.
