Christine, Juno, On Your Toes, et al. Part of Masterworks Broadway’s Spring Release Lineup

Masterworks Broadway has announced its spring lineup of digital releases of original cast recordings, as well as other studio cast albums, which will be made available as both discs-on-demand and downloads.

The first Masterworks Broadway dually issued studio cast recording for the spring will be a 1953 version of Rodgers and Hart’s On Your Toes, featuring Tony Award winner Jack Cassidy and Portia Nelson. The release set for April 26 has been created from newly restored original mono masters. On May 17, The Merry Widow, starring Patrice Munsel, Bob Wright, Joan Weldon, Frank Poretta, Mischa Auer, and Sig Arno, will be released. Munsel will also be featured on the June 14 release of a 1955 recording of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, which also features Robert Merrill, Florence Henderson, George S. Irving, Gloria Lane and Herbert Banke.

The company will also make 11 cast recordings, which utilize authorized master recordings, available digitally for the first time. On April 5, the releases will be the Broadway cast albums of Christine, First Impressions, Juno, and Oh, Captain!. On May 17, Masterworks Broadway will make the original cast recordings of Mr. President and The Happiest Girl in the World available through online music providers, as well as the 1964 New York World’s Fair cast recording of To Broadway, With Love. A fourth May release will be a 1957 studio recording of Brigadoon. June 26 will see the release of an additional four Broadway shows: The Girl in Pink Tights, Kean, Maggie Flynn and Runaways.
