Richard Alfieri, Kay Cole, Arthur Allen Seidelman Developing Dark of the Moon Musical and Film

Playwright Richard Alfieri, director Arthur Allen Seidelman, and choreographer Kay Cole are at work on a stage musical and film version of Howard Richardson and William Berney’s play Dark of the Moon, according to a report in Variety. A composer for the project will be announced in the near future.

The play, set in the Appalachian Mountains, centers on boy, who’s also a witch, who attempts to become fully human once he has fallen in love with a mortal girl. The piece debuted on Broadway in 1945, running 318 performances.

Alfieri, Seidelman and Cole previously collaborated on Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. Alfieri’s other credits include the feature film Echoes, and the novel, Ricardo – Diary of a Matinee Idol, which he adapted into the screenplay, Moonlight Blonde.

Seidelman’s other Broadway credits include Vieux Carre and Billy. In addition, he has directed such film and television projects as Hercules in New York, Walking Across Egypt, and A Christmas Carol: The Musical.

Cole originated the role of Maggie in the original New York production of A Chorus Line, for which she received a Theatre World Award. Among her directing and choreography credits are BARK!, It’s the Housewives, Assassins, Pirates Of Penzance, South Pacific, 110 in the Shade, and Do I Hear A Waltz.
