Broadway veteran Eric McCormack has been cast as the star of Studio City, a new pilot from Fox, Variety reports. The Will & Grace star will play a celebrity drug dealer.

Studio City is a new series from Shameless producers Krista Vernoff, Andrew Stearns, and John Wells and written by Vernoff. The plot, which follows a young singer's path as she comes of age living with her songwriter/drug dealer father, is inspired by Vernoff’s own experiences.

Eric McCormack is a television and Broadway favorite who earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2001 for his role as Will Truman in Will & Grace. A veteran stage actor who began his career at the Stratford Shakespeare festival, McCormack's credits on Broadway include The Music Man, The Play What I Wrote, and most recently, Gore Vidal's The Best Man.
