Billy Hayes Brings His One-Man Show, Riding the Midnight Express, to New York

Billy Hayes, whose book Midnight Express and its film version brought him to the public's attention in the 1970s, will perform his one-man show, Riding the Midnight Express, at the St. Luke's Theatre from January 22-March 23. Hayes brings the piece to New York after performing it at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. John Gould Rubin directs.
In his autobiographical show, Hayes describes his five years in a Turkish prison and his eventual escape. He also reveals aspects of his adventures not told in the book and corrects some of the plotlines and scenes that were fictionalized for the movie.
Hayes' book Midnight Express was published in 1976 and was made into a film in 1978. The film was nominated for six Oscars and won two, one of which went to Oliver Stone for Best Writing.
