Danai Gurira, Derek Smith, Nick Westrate to Receive Equity Awards

Actors’ Equity Foundation has announced awards to be presented at Equity’s Eastern Regional Membership Meeting on Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Equity office.

Nick Westrate has been named as this year’s recipient of the St. Clair Bayfield Award for his performance as Berowne in Shakespeare’s Love’s Labor’s Lost. The award, which includes a $1,000 check and a crystal plaque, honors the best performance in a supporting role by an Actor in a Shakespearean play.

Equity’s Joe A. Callaway Awards, given to the best performance in a professional production of a classic play (one written prior to 1920) in the New York metropolitan area, will go to Danai Gurira for her performance as Isabella in Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure presented by the Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park, and to Derek Smith for his performance as Dog in the Red Bull Theater production of The Witch of Edmonton. The award includes a $1,000 check plus an engraved plaque for each recipient.
