Nominations for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, honoring the best in music, were announced on December 1. The ceremony will be held on February 13 in Los Angeles and aired live on CBS.

The nominees for Best Musical Show Album are American Idiot, Fela, A Little Night Music, Promises, Promises, and Sondheim on Sondheim.

Music from FOX's Glee garnered two nominations one in the Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals category for "Don't Stop Beleivin'" and one in the Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media for Glee: The Music, Volume 1. Among others doubly nominated is Fantasia, whose Back To Me is one of the Best R&B Album nominees and who also was nominated as Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for "Bittersweet" from the recording; and Usher, who has been nominated for Best Contemporary R&B Album for Raymon V Raymond and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "There Goes My Baby" from the album.

Barbra Streisand has been nominated in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category for Love Is the Answer. Other nominees in this category include Barry Manilow for The Greatest Love Songs of All Time, Rod Stewart for Fly Me to the Moon...The Great American Songbook: Volume V, Michael Bublé for Crazy Love and Johnny Mathis for Let It Be Me: Mathis In Nashville.

Among the other notable theater-related nominees are Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton for Julie Andrews' Collection of Poems, Songs, and Lullabies; Carol Burnett for This Time Together: Laughter and Reflections; Elton John and Leon Russell for "If It Wasn't for Bad"; Susan Boyle for I Dreamed a Dream; Cyndi Lauper for Memphis Blues; Adam Lambert for "Whataya Want From Me?;" Sarah Silverman for The Bedwestter; Margaret Cho for Cho Dependent; and Robin Williams for Weapons of Self Destruction.

Eminem led the field with 10 nominations. Other multiple nominees include Bruno Mars, Jay-Z, Lady Antebellum, Lady Gaga, Jeff Beck, B.o.B, and John Legend.
