Smith, Williams Set for Open Book on Broadway Event at Symphony Space

The “Stay Strong: Healing Starts With Us” (HSWU) national campaign, set up to provide open dialogue about emotional distress, will present Open Book on Broadway at Symphony Space on Thursday, January 15 at 7:00 pm.

The event will feature a screening of The Open Book, a documentary of the March 18, 2008 HSWU launch event held at the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial & Educational Center, featuring hosts Susan L. Taylor and Geoffrey Canada, as well as John Amos, Ruby Dee, Jamie Hector, Mo’Nique, Terry McMillan, and Felicia “Snoop” Pearson along with many community, civic, social, and political leaders.

Antonique Smith will perform a live rendition of “America’s Love Song,” a remix of the National Anthem. Smith stars as Faith Evans in Notorious, the upcoming biopic about hip-hop legend Biggie Smalls, and her Broadway credits include Rent. Writer Terrie M. Williams will also share her personal journey with depression, and tickets will include an autographed copy of her book, Black Pain: It Just Looks Like We’re Not Hurting.
