John Malkovich will star as Austrian criminal Jack Unterwerger in Michael Sturminger’s play The Infernal Comedy, to open at Vienna’s Ronacher Theatre on July 1, according to Agence France-Presse.

In the play, the Unterweger character recounts his life, during which he murdered 12 prostitutes and committed suicide in prison, while two sopranos representing his victims sing arias by Haydn, Mozart and Vivaldi.

Malkovich is an ensemble member of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company. His New York stage credits include Burn This, The Caretaker, Arms and the Man, Death of a Salesman, and True West. He received Oscar nominations for his work in In the Line of Fire and Places in the Heart; his other credits include Burn After Reading, Dangerous Liaisons, and Les Miserables.
