Anna Deavere Smith to Receive Matrix Award

Playwright and actress Anna Deavere Smith will receive New York Women in Communications’ Matrix Award on Monday, April 7 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.

The Matrix Awards, which honor outstanding women in the communications industry, will also be given to publicist Joannie C. Danieledes, advertising executive Susan Giannino, New York Times reporter Linda Greenhouse, Gourmet editor-in-chief Ruth Reichl, ABC news anchor Robin Roberts,and Disney television executive Anne Sweeney.
Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg will recieve the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Smith’ s new solo show, Let Me Down Easy, will run at the Long Wharf Theater, January 9-February 3. Her previous shows include Fires in the Mirror and Twilight: Los Angeles. Smith is also known for her acting work, including a role on the NBC series The West Wing.
