Lily Rabe and Michael Stuhlbarg are the winners of the 2006 Joe A. Callaway Award, presented by the Actors’ Equity Foundation for the best performance in a professional production of a classic (pre-1920) play. In addition, George Morfogen has received Equity’s annual St. Clair Bayfield Award that honors the best performance by an Actor in a Shakespearean play in the New York metropolitan area. The awards, which consist of an engraved plaque and a check for $1,000, will be presented to the actors on January 5.

Rabe was honored for her work as Ellie Dunn in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s current revival of George Bernard Shaw’s Heartbreak House. Her previous New York stage credits include Steel Magnolias and Colder Than Here. She is the daughter of actress Jill Clayburgh and playwright David Rabe.

Stuhlbarg was honored for his performance in the Atlantic Theater Company’s current revival of Harley Granville Barker’s The Voysey Inheritance. He was seen earlier this year in Measure for Pleasure at the Public Theater and received a Tony Award nomination and the Drama Desk Award for The Pillowman.

Morfogen was honored for his portrayal of the Duke of York in the Classic Stage Company production of Shakespeare’s Richard II. His Broadway appearances include Fortune’s Fool, An Inspector Calls, Arms and the Man, John Gabriel Borkman, and Kingdoms. He is best known to TV viewers for his recurring role of Bob Rebadow in the HBO series, Oz.

The judging panel for both the Callaway Award and the St. Clair Bayfield Award consisted of journalists Adam Feldman, Harry Haun, Michael Kuchwara, and David Rosenberg.
