Michael Feinstein, Stephen Sondheim, et al. to Contribute to Hugh Martin: Hidden Treasures CD

By Andy Propst • Nov 28, 2011 • New York City
Stephen Sondheim will provide the foreword, and Ted Chapin, Michael Feinstein, Mark Eden Horowitz, Sheldon Harnick, and Terry O'Donnell will contribute articles to the 88-page booklet that will accompany the new CD Hugh Martin: Hidden Treasures. Harbinger Records and the Musical Theater Project will release the album on December 1.

The 29 track disc will feature 30 of Martin's songs, heard mostly in demo recordings. Selections will come from such stage and screen musicals as Best Foot Forward, Make a Wish, Athena, and High Spirits, as well as works by Martin that went unproduced, including Here Come the Dreamers, a 1961 project planned for Jeanette MacDonald and Liza Minnelli, but aborted when MacDonald was diagnosed with cancer.
