Actor John Neville Has Died

Stage and screen star John Neville died from Alzheimer’s-related complications, in Toronto on Saturday, November 19. He was 86.


The British-born actor made frequent appearances on Broadway, beginning in 1956, playing the title role in Shakespeare’s Richard II. Among his many other credits on the Great White Way are Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet, Twelfth Night, Ghosts and, most recently, Saint Joan in 1993.


The actor moved to Canada in 1972, where he worked extensively with a number of different theaters, including the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, where he also served as artistic director from 1986-1989.

Among his many films are the title role in the 1998 movie The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen as well as Urban Legend, Dinner at Fred’s, Water Damage, and The X-Files.

A private funeral will take place immediately, while plans for a memorial will be announced at a later date.
