Vocalist and pianist Michael Feinstein has been appointed the director of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s new popular music series, according to The New York Times. The paper reports that he will create three programs and a family evening focusing on the relation between jazz and songwriting. The concerts will be held in the Allen Room in Frederick P. Rose Hall during the spring of 2011.

As previously reported, Feinstein will return to Broadway in the spring, co-starring with Dame Edna in All About Me, and will play his namesake club, Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, with Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce, December 1-30.

Feinstein has previously appeared on Broadway in Michael Feinstein in Concert, and two additional concerts subtitled Piano and Voice and Isn’t It Romantic. He is a four-time Grammy Award nominee and received a special Drama Desk Award in 1988 for celebrating American musical theater songs.
