Baldwin, Lang, LaBute, et al. to Appear at Symphony Space

Actors Alec Baldwin and Stephen Lang and playwright Neil LaBute will be among the participants in Symphony Space’s Selected Shorts series, hosted by Isaiah Sheffer, and featuring short stories performed by stars of the stage and screen.

Baldwin and Lang will join Ed Park and Heidi Julavits, editors of literature and arts magazine The Believer, on November 12 at 7 pm. Baldwin will read Julia Slavin’s “Covered” while Lang will read “The Honored Dead” by Breece D’J Pancake.

LaBute will present an evening entitled The Grand Illusion: Tales of Modern Couples on December 3 at 7 pm. He will introduce three stories about relationships and talk about creating characters for film, theatre, and the page.

Additional Selected Shorts events will include Scary Stories for a Winter’s Night with Joyce Carol Oates (January 21), Writing in the Café (February 4), Black Mask Mystery Magazine (February 18), Tales from the Great Epics
(March 4), Passport to Paris (March 25), April Foolery (April 1), Passport to London (April 15), Rebel Yiddish Writers (May 6), and Tales That Surprise (May 20).

In addition, Symphony Space’s literary programming also includes the Thalia Book Club, where writers meet for intimate conversations; Thalia Kids Book Club, featuring lively talks between children’s book authors and their fans ages 9-12; and the annual Bloomsday on Broadway XXVIII, to be held June 16 and featuring a cast of nearly 100 Broadway and film stars, Selected Shorts regulars, and avid Joyceans in the carefully crafted excerpts from James Joyce’s Ulysses, staged by Isaiah Sheffer.
