The Broadway production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will close following the matinee performance on December 31, having played 34 previews and 285 regular performances.

Based on the Ian Fleming novel and the 1968 movie of the same title, the show is directed by Adrian Noble, has a score by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, and was adapted for the stage by Jeremy Sams. The cast is led by Raúl Esparza, Erin Dilly, Philip Bosco, and Jan Maxwell. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang received five Tony Award nominations and four Drama Desk Award nominations, with Maxwell winning the Drama Desk for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

In his TheaterMania review, David Finkle wrote: “The show itself looks and feels vulgar. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang joins a list of musicals put together by people who don’t seem to care for quality, only for commercial potential.”
