Erin Dilly joined the cast of Into the Woods this week, becoming the Broadway revival's new Cinderella. She replaces Laura Benanti, who held the role until suddenly bowing out last month due to illness, according to the show's press office. Understudy Melissa Dye played the part in the between-time.
Dilly comes to the Woods fresh from the Roundabout's revival of The Boys From Syracuse. Previous credits include Nellie Forbush in the national tour of South Pacific and Young Phyllis in the recent Broadway production of Follies. She also co-starred in the national tours of Beauty and the Beast and Martin Guerre. And Dilly briefly had the title role in Thoroughly Modern Millie during the show's pre-Broadway engagement in La Jolla before being replaced by her understudy, Sutton Foster
The revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's fairy tale musical Into the Woods officially opened on April 30, 2002. The cast includes Vanessa Williams as the Witch, John McMartin as the Narrator, and Gregg Edelman as Cinderella's Prince.
