Last evening, filmmaker Rick McKay, along with producers Richard Eric Weigle and Michael Anastasio, hosted a fundraising event for the new documentary Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age (a sequel to McKay's 2004 film Broadway: The Golden Age). A number of notable Broadway veterans were in attendance including nine-time Tony Award-winning director/choreographer Tommy Tune (Nine, Grand Hotel), prolific movie-musical playback singer Marni Nixon (West Side Story, The Sound of Music), Tony nominee Jane Summerhays (Me and My Girl), Tony-winning composer/musical director Donald Pippin (A Chorus Line), and actor/songwriter Carleton Carpenter (Hello, Dolly!).
During the event, which included a screening of selected chapters from the film, McKay announced that Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age will be receiving its world premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival during the first week of February 2014 — the same festival where his first film earned the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary in 2004.
Take a look at what some other Broadway stars are saying about McKay's films. Jonathan Groff, Alec Baldwin, Naomi Watts, and more legendary alums of the Great White Way share their thoughts.
