Former U.S. Senator and Presidential Candidate Fred Dalton Thompson Makes His Broadway Debut in A Time To Kill

Tony Award winner Rupert Holmes has adapted best-selling author John Grisham’s first novel into a legal thriller for the stage.

Is murder ever justified? Find out for yourself in the New York premiere of A Time to Kill, which opens on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre tonight. Based on the John Grisham novel of the same name, A Time to Kill has been adapted for the stage by Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood). It's the story of Carl Lee Hailey, a black man who takes justice into his own hands after his daughter is raped by white supremacists in a small Mississippi town. Will his ambitious young white lawyer be able to get him off the hook? Expect loads of racial tension and legal jargon in this courtroom thriller about the chasm between justice and the law. Also expect to see a former U.S. Senator (and Law & Order star) dressed in long black robes, sitting on a high bench.

A Time to Kill stars former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Fred Dalton Thompson (Broadway debut), Sebastian Arcelus (Elf), Chike Johnson (Wit), Tony Award nominee Patrick Page (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change), Emmy Award winner Tom Skerritt (Broadway debut), John Douglas Thompson (Cyrano de Bergerac), and Ashley Williams (Broadway debut). The cast also features Jeffrey Bender (Cymbeline), Dashiell Eaves (A Behanding in Spokane), J.R. Horne (The Crucible), John Procaccino (A Enemy of the People), Tijuana Ricks (Broadway debut), and Lee Sellars (West Side Story). Ethan McSweeny (Gore Vidal's The Best Man) directs.
