Mayor Michael Bloomberg opened the festivities at the 50th Anniversary Gala for La MaMa E.T.C. which was held in the Ellen Stewart Theatre on Monday, October 17. Sam Shepard received the inaugural Ellen Stewart Award, and the evening featured selections from plays by Wallace Shawn, Harvey Fierstein, Jackie Curtis, and Taylor Mac.
