Mikhail Baryshnikov, Stephen Sondheim, et al. to Receive Mayor’s Awards for Arts & Culture

Recipients of the 2011 Mayor’s Award for Arts and Culture have been announced. The awards will be presented in a ceremony at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center on Tuesday, November 1 at 6pm.

Honorees include composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim, who will receive the NYC Handel Medallion, as well as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Alice Diamond, Jimmy Heath, Maya Lin, Ronnie Schuster, and the Theatre Development Fund.

The event will feature live performances by leading performing arts organizations, and appearances by special guest artists, including stage and screen star Alec Baldwin.

The Mayor’s Awards for Arts and Culture acknowledge and celebrate the role individual artists, arts educators, cultural organizations, corporations and philanthropists play in the public-private partnerships that sustain the City’s creative vitality and economic well-being.
